Akash Ryall From Sir, With Love- Akash Ryall

Could there be a greater legacy given by a principal to his students than the concern for health and fitness? Principal Akash Ryall of Bethany High School in Bangalore, leads from the front, the health and fitness concern which is a school priority. There is growing evidence that indicates that students’ academic performance is directly influenced by their
health and physical fitness levels. Faced with proof that healthier students miss fewer days of school, are more mentally alert and perform better on tests, let us acknowledge that school health ultimately may be as important as reading, writing and math!

“Some people enjoy pub hopping. I enjoy gym hopping.”
“All of us in any walk of life need to be passionate about something. It's also important to do something that disconnects you from your field of work. I believe that that recharges your batteries and helps you to focus and do better when you come back to your vocation.”

“We now have the Bethany Academy of Sports & Games in which I am involved and I am proud of all our Bethany teams - Soccer, Cricket, Basketball and Throw ball [girls] who have participated in Inter School Meets and have won many a tournament. A few years ago, I was the Convener for the ICSE Schools, Karnataka where we had a Sports Meet in which 34 top ICSE Schools participated,” he recalls

“I guess my passion for fitness was inculcated at an early age and now I cannot do without some form of exercise,” says Akash about his passion for sports and fitness. His P.T. Master at Baldwin High School could be the reason behind Akash’s obsession, oops! passion. “Mr. Valentine Ward was our P.T. Master at Baldwin Boys High School and he was chiefly responsible for my interest in sports right from the 4th grade. In High School, I remember working out with him in the school gymnasium. He had a super physic and still does at age 62.” Looking at Akash’s physique we can safely say that he is doing his master proud.
