Cover Story

Cover Story - Our utmost for the Highest!

“……and when they grow up, they should be able to fit themselves usefully into the world of tomorrow.”

“The School was set as an institution to provide a progressive, liberal education to girls which incorporated Indian values and culture.”

“The school catered to girls from royal families, who travelled to school in a bus that had curtains all round, even between them and the driver,”

Feature - From tunics to trousers!

“Coloured stockings and linen neck band also made up parts of the uniform. The uniforms then were designed in such a way that years of managing them developed a gait of measured dignity.”

“Associating a dress with its activity is another reason why uniforms help youngsters get into a frame of mind for studies.”

  Feature - Where Dreams Consolidate…

“Each of us has numerous opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others and world in general. All it takes is to take a step forward.”

No matter how deeply you may think over it, there is no answer to the question, “Why isn’t the world a better place to live in?” But there is always an answer to the question “How can I make it a better place?” This thought was provoked by a handful of students who had come together to participate at the South Asian Finals of Horlicks Wizkids organized by Krayon. The event saw a participation of 68 students from 39 cities across India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The School of Ancient Wisdom, Bangalore played the role of the venue for a duration of 5 days in November 2009. All the participants underwent a wide range of activities that were evaluated on different parameters like communication skills, talent, creativity, IQ, EQ, general conduct and so on.

Come into my parlour! - Across the sphere!

“The method lays the foundation for a better child-adult relationship and thereby for fuller and even surprising development”

The name of Dr. Maria Montessori today in the layman’s term refers to just another system of study offered by schools. To a parent it flashes images of lots of play things for the child to play with at School. Principals and teachers alike can be flooded with questions that talk about which system is the apt system for children. MENTOR spends valuable time with Mrs. Meenakshi Shivaramakrishnan, Director of Training *** while relating her thoughts to Mr. Dilip Patel’s article on understanding the Montessori method in education.

Academia input - The way forward in formative years

“In just a few pages, you have been able to sum up so many aspects of education. The piece is very informative indeed!”-- I take the liberty of quoting Mr. Harinarayan Sharma, Senior Vice President-Business Development, Manipal Education and Medical Group India Private Limited. Dr. Vidya Shetty, Head-Academics, Manipal K-12 Education and Editor- MENTOR writes……

“Brilliant! You have woven an informative tapestry of education. I guess we need to take this further,” wrote the ever enthusiast Syed Sultan, my good friend and colleague. Goaded by such encouragement and the reassurance that readers did benefit from such input sets me writing this sequel on education.
