Dear Principals,
Being in the field of education for over four decades and having recently retired as Principal of Sophia College for Women in Mumbai, I understand the work pressures, the curriculum changes and syllabus struggles that you are constantly facing. I am aware of the problems Principals face with Management, Teaching faculty, Parents, Students, and the Non-teaching staff. To crown it all Government circulars add to their woes, leading to tensions and perhaps a breakdown. So you see I’ve been through it all.
Recently a national debate has surfaced on: Should Sex-Education be introduced in schools? Opinions are abounding, and many Principals are confused, upset, feel helpless and hopeless wondering, what really is the problem in Sex-education? Sexual promiscuity is everywhere; be it teen pregnancy, child abuse, rape, prostitution, venereal disease, HIV/AIDS; all these are surely the result of sexual ignorance. Given this alarming scenario, we need to question, “Why should sex- education not be introduced in schools?” |
